What is SEO and why does it matter?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. A search engine is a tool that helps people find information on the World Wide Web. Examples of search engines are Google, Bing, Yahoo!, etc. Search engine optimization is a way to optimize your website to help provide better information to search engines which, in turn, makes it easier for prospective and current families to find your site.

Search engines "crawl and index" websites. Meaning they go out and catalog information about all the content available on the internet. When someone enters a search into a search engine, the search engine uses an algorithm to assess all of its indexed content and provide a list of the best website results based on that persons search.

So what can you do to promote more traffic on your website and better search engine rankings? Let's dive into some SEO basics.
